How large can your tests be?

RedWolf has launched volumetric tests over 500 Gigabits/sec. Our theoretical capacity is over 1 Terabit/sec, although most of our volumetric tests are in the 1 to 30 gigabit/sec range. Since RedWolf does white-box permission-based testing we will limit the size of attacks to the maximum level agreed to by all test participants.

Layer 7 tests tend to be lower in bandwidth and the focus is on request rate and concurrency. The bandwidth of a ‘Layer 7’ test is ultimately decided by the server — if a capacity transaction limit is hit then bandwidth can’t be increased. Ultimately it is not about ‘test size’ but how an infrastructure responds to changes in size and other attack parameters. RedWolf can smoothly ramp-up from 1 packet per second to any rate during a test.
